Opening Season Endurance Ride – 26 November 2016

Bahrain International Endurance Village, Zallaq. Saturday 26 November 2016.

A convincing win for Rashid Al Rowie.

The season-opening CEI2* 120km race had an extra dimension due to heavy rain, which increased the challenge for the competitors.

bahrain-42Under the watchful eyes of HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and HH Sheikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Rashid Khalid Al Rowie stormed to a convincing victory aboard Plage El Milora. His comfortable lead put him well ahead of stablemate Shaikh Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa atop Rohan Orne, who just managed to fend off third-placed Yacoob Al Hammadi and J S Chabls.

Sheikh Nasser stated: “We witnessed a narrowly-contested race in this season’s premiere race despite the weather and the course conditions as there was thick mud. Whoever followed the race would understand the obstacles the riders were facing in today’s competition. But all the participants were very keen to bring the race to an exciting end, and at the same time ensure that their horses didn’t suffer any injury.”
He added: “We are expecting to see action-packed races in the coming rounds, and this is what everybody is hoping for as the riders in the Kingdom of Bahrain will benefit greatly from intense competitions ahead of their participation in international tournaments. We were very close to calling off the race because of the weather, but we chose to go ahead with it as such conditions simulate the same climate under which European endurance races are being held. Adding to this was the level of enthusiasm from the participants who were raring to go and race.”

bahrain-46Al Zaeem Stable trainer, Abdulhaq Qadouri, was overjoyed with first and second place. “It was an encouraging start for us. We will continue working hard, adopting the valuable instructions of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad. We are looking forward to more victories in the next rounds.”

The last word came from winner Rashid Al Rowie: “I can’t fully express my joy at this victory, especially at seeing my teammate winning second place. The competition was tough and compounded by the rains. I’m very happy with the way we handled the race, requiring us to put in a very smart strategy to ensure our horses spared their energies until the end.”
