Uruguay gets ready for the 2017 season

Almost every weekend there are 60 and 80 km race events in Uruguay in order to get horses through the necessary qualifying process.

This coming weekend we will see the first FEI race, with a 120km on Saturday and an 80km on Sunday, in Trinidad, Flores. It will be the first of 12 races throughout 2017.
The other races will be divided between the new venue in Punta del Este, in Costa Azul in Haras la Perseverancia, and on the tracks of Trinidad, Flores.

Uruguay’s 2017 season highlight will fall in October with the organisation of the Pan American championship. Taking place in Punta del Este, the most popular vacation city in Latin America, the try-out event for this championship will be held in April.
It is expected that the season will be very competitive as many candidates are hoping to be selected for the national team and to represent their country in the PanAm Championship.

In the previous season the Uruguay youth riders stood out in FEI rankings, with the sisters Belén and Valentina Mendez claiming second and third position respectively. In the combination ranking HLD Patron with Luis Crucci, obtained the first position as seniors. Valentina Mendez, with AS Mister, also claimed first position in the Young Rider category.

Uruguay makes no small effort to attract regional and international riders in order to encourage worldwide recognition of this small country located on the coast of the Rio de la Plata, between the two large countries of Argentina and Brazil. The country continues on its quest to improve the national team and has ambitions of ranking in the endurance world’s elite.
