Al Wathba Challenge – 12 November 2016

M7 Endurance Stables and MRM Stables sweep the field

Emirates International Endurance Village, Saturday 12 November 2016: The UAE season saw its first 120km race today at Al Wathba.

Al Wathba ChallengeThis race is considered the final test for horses and riders going forward to the National Day event in December. Conspicuously, the stables fighting for the podium brought their very best horses, underlining the true magnitude of the event.

“We knew this race was important but we were not expecting these speeds,” was an often-heard comment.

As usual the race was an open book until the start of the last loop, and the starting positions for the final loop were decided purely by the recovery time of the horses as a big pack came in all together at the end of the third loop.

Salem Al Kitbi, with Burkaan, claimed first position from the second loop onwards, and never gave it away.

The biggest gain in the last loop came from Mansour Al Faresi with Tiswan Fageole, who left more than five minutes behind the leader but ended up crossing the finish line side by side with him.

“You could say that my horse is a bit crazy”

Al Wathba ChallengeDelighted with his placing, Mansour commented: “You could say that my horse is a bit crazy. We did a race together before, but not with this result, so I’m very happy.”

Third place was well-deserved for Saeed Al Khayari, aboard Dhurgaam, who worked his way steadily through the field.

The new M7 Endurance Stables have set the bar for an excellent season with both a first and a third place. However, it was MRM trainer Ismail Mohammed who had the last word, commenting: “It’s always difficult at the beginning of the season to choose which horses you enter. But, of course, we’re happy!”
