HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Endurance Cup – 7 April 2017

Rashid Al Rowaie and Al Zaeem Stable Champions of Bahraini season closer

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa Endurance Cup, Bahrain International Endurance Village, Zallaq. Friday 7 April 2017.

It was a nice programme for the closing race of the Bahrain endurance season with a CEN 40km, CEN 80km, CEI1* 80km, CEN 120km for private stables and a CEI2* 120km.

The main event was the CEI2* 120km, held over four loops of 40, 30, 30 and 20km to make it a total of 100km and for this occasion was a night race.

Shaikh Nasser, who hailed the performances said that the Cup was a huge success thanks to the broad participation and the incredible results recorded by all the participants, witnessed a nail-biting sprint with the top three only separated by four seconds.

Victor was Rashid Al Rowaie (Al Jarih) who managed to keep after a long sprint Abdulrahman Al Zayed (Pegase d’Altus) behind him with the minimal difference.
Third was Shaikha Najla bint Salman Al Khalifa (Taktik De Luluma).

It was a big group that came in after the first loop but Fahad Alazri (Velaco) had the best recovery which made him the first leader.

He had to hand over the lead to Abdulrahman Al Zayed after the second loop but he was only a mere three seconds behind.
But after the third loop, it was game over for Fahad Alazri because of metabolic.

That third loop was not a decider for the final results as the top four was spread out only two minutes with Khalid Khairi (Khamon) with Abdulrahman Al Zayed 30 seconds behind, Rashid Al Rowaie 40 seconds further and Shaikha Najla bint Salman Al Khalifa another 40 seconds further.

As usual, it didn’t take too long before the leaders came together and approached the final stretch as a tight group.
Highest speed for the final loop was for Shaikha Najla bint Salman Al Khalifa which showed how much she pushed to make contact with the ones who started in front of her.

With three they started the sprint and as said earlier then finished within four seconds with the known results: first: Rashid Al Rowaie, second: Abdulrahman Al Zayed and third Shaikha Najla bint Salman Al Khalifa.

The local stables were racing within the ‘open race’ but would have a separate classification.

The fight for top honours was less competitive compared with the ‘open’ race.
Here it was Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa (Happy Jack) who emerged as the victor and in a dominant form.
His performance should have been good for a fifth place in the open race.
His lead after the first loop with almost five minutes and he doubled this after each loop.

Khalid Al Mubarak (Mirbat Rosebud) claimed silver who was able to stay clear of a fight with his closest contender.
But the last loop his speed dropped a lot but whatever Faisal Al Dossery (Nizar de l’Enclos) tried in the final loop the gap was too big to form any threat and was happy to obtain the third place.

The CEI1* 80km race was an easy victory for Gordon Singh (Niagara de Luriecq) who never had any competition and was the only competitor who managed an average above 21 km/h.
Second place was for Shaikha Noora Bint Isa Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa (Currowan Mojo) and also here no competition for the silver medal.
Third place was for Saud Al Doseri (Samir Ibn Sarid) who had to work his way through the field to finish in the third spot.
