Charlie ChadwickWhen did you start riding?

I have been riding since before I can remember, as my parents owned a large yard so I was brought up in the stables, and I had my own horse from when I was just 3 years old. I started competing in endurance when I was 7 years old on my pure bred Arab, Abi.

Does riding run in the family?

Yes, my mum has always had horses, and she started competing in endurance riding in 2002 and FEI in 2016. My dad always crews for us and although he doesn’t ride himself, he loves our horses and supports us at every ride and at home.

Why do you enjoy endurance riding?

Since my first endurance ride in 2007, I have loved the sport because I love riding through so many conditions and spending hours with my horses. I have built up such strong bonds between me and my horses through days spent training and competing. I also love endurance because you can ride all over the world on many terrains.

Do you ride your own horses or do you ride for other people?

Me and my mum compete with 5 endurance horses; 4 of which are at FEI level. I have only ever ridden my own horses as they take up all my time. We bring them on from younger ages. However, if offered, I would ride for other people if I wasn’t competing with my own horses.

What else do you get up to when you aren’t riding?

I am currently studying Equine Management at Rodbaston College at Diploma Level so If I aren’t riding, I’m studying or at work!
