When did you start riding?

I started riding since I was five but took my first lesson at seven.

Does riding runs in the family?

Yes, riding runs in my family. My older sisters used to ride and I loved watching them ride and always went to the stables with them.

Why horses?

Apart from all the things horses taught me, they are the most beautiful animals and that’s what attracted me to them.

Endurance World Manal Fakhrawi. Surrounded with horses. Why endurance for Manal Fakhrawi?

I started off being a show jumper and when Bahrain hosted the first endurance race I took it up as a new challenge. Since then my love for endurance grew and I never stopped.

Own horses or you ride for somebody else?

I own show jumping horses but for endurance I am lucky and proud to ride for the royal endurance team representing our Kingdom and King.

Does Manal Fakhrawi train horses?

Before having a full-time job, I spent my days training my horses, unfortunately I don’t have the time to do that now but I hope I will in the future.

What else do you enjoy?

I recently got into triathlons so I enjoy swimming and cycling (running not so much)

How do you set your goals?

I am a person who can’t function without a goal so I always set goals and according to that I train myself. I usually aim for races and then I build a schedule to help me prepare for it. I tend to get lost without goals and wouldn’t know how to train.

What would be the ultimate achievement Manal Fakhrawi?

My ultimate achievement would be to represent my country in the world championships and claim the title.

Did you ever accept the possibility of not accomplishing what you wanted?

In life you don’t always succeed, you face setbacks but I have learnt that it is ok. It was difficult in the beginning to accept defeat but with patience I have learnt that you don’t necessarily get what you want at that moment but you may get it at a later time or in the future. It is all about timing and when the right time comes the sky is the limit.

There was a time that I had to stay away from sports and that was the most difficult thing I had to do. Sports is all I have and all I turn to when I go through difficulties in life so when that was taken away from me I felt destroyed. That was my set back. I was away for more than 2 years but when I came back I made sure I was stronger than before.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Do what you love and be the best at it! I always try to advice people to stay active to live a healthier life and have a positive mind set. I always find myself in a good mood after a workout. Apart from all the physical benefits you get from sports it also helps people mentally, relieves stress, improves concentration, and simply gives you something to do.

Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

I try to encourage people through social media and show them that anyone can do it if you set your mind to it. No excuses! That is my motto. People should avoid saying things like I don’t have the time or I can’t because if you really want to do it then you will make time for it. The minute you make room for excuses then you let in doubt and that will hold you back from accomplishing anything in life. I had to do that myself when I started my 9 to 6 job so if I can do it then you definitely can.
