Endurance World...

In Brief: Margot Thomas (19) from France

I am Margot Thomas, 19 years old and was born in Paimpol, a little city of Britanie (France) on 27 of May 1997. Last year I moved to Lille (France) for my studies at the EDHEC Business School

Endurance World Margot Thomas leading the fieldWhen did you start riding?

I started riding when I was six years old, I learned it from Daniel and Gaelle Ollivier, both active in jumping and endurance. When I was eleven I completed my first race and since then I didn’t miss a season.

Does riding run in the family?

My father used to ride when he was young but only for fun and my mother is afraid of horses. But my little sister Josephine also rides CEI races and we are both crazy about horses. Even though my parents don’t ride, they follow us everywhere and for each race they help us in their own way.

Why endurance?

When we finish a race, we are the happiest team, because even if endurance is considered like an individual equestrian sport, we can’t take the start without our team. The adrenaline when we are riding and the team spirits are the most fantastic things.
Even more, when in the last km, we have a horse who wants always more. It’s the greatest reward.
Endurance racing really is a good school of life.

Most of the time I ride our family horses, we have three horses qualified for CEI. Sometimes I ride horses from the stable of Pierre Auffret.

Do you train horses?

No … I am not able with my studies because I am currently a sophomore year student at EDHEC business. Otherwise, as soon as I can get home, I train my horses. The rest of the time, they are trained by Pierre Auffret stable which is a wonderful team that I thank for their help and the good work they have done!

What else do you enjoy?

I love running, travelling, and hanging out with my friends
