In Brief: Paulina Berriel (16) from Uruguay

Name: Paulina Berriel
Age: 16
From: Treinta y Tres, Uruguay

Notable achievements / palmares.

Right now my greatest achievement is a good position in the FEI ranking and winning in Walvis Bay (Namibia) on a track that really was a challenge for me.

Endurance World Paulina Berriel. Brown horse. When did Paulina Berriel start riding?

I started riding from very young age, participating in my first endurance race when I was six years old.
It is something that I choose to do, because nobody within my family practices any horse related sport. But I am more than grateful for all the support they give me.
Since a very young age horses caught my attention; from the moment I started racing, my life began to connect with them.

Why endurance?

I choose Endurance because it is a sport in which you invest a lot of time with the horse, both in the race and during training. Enough time to really feel it and know it, to travel kilometers just concentrating on the horse and without thinking about anything else. It is also a very friendly sport, with a very nice atmosphere and you get to meet new people from many countries who have the same interested.

Endurance World Paulina Berriel. In full attack.Own horses or ride for somebody else?

I have my own horses, those are the ones I usually compete with.  Additionally I have had the privilege that other people entrusted me their horses.

How would you rate your desire and determination to succeed?

I believe that my desire and determination are huge, I enjoy a lot of work and strive every day to obtain good results. I make sure to give the best of me. It is a sport I cherish 100%.

What are the main motivations of Paulina Berriel for doing sports?

My main motivation to perform this sport are horses, to be with them daily and to learn something new every day. Another motivation are the people involved, the friends I make thanks to this sport, and all the new places and tracks that remain to be discovered.

Endurance World Paulina Berriel. Riding with two. What do you feel are / were your main strengths that made you achieve the good position in the FEI Ranking Junior?

Personally, I do not believe to have specific strengths to achieve success in the FEI ranking. Honestly this year I arrived to the races more relaxed, with the coolest mind and with the object to classify instead to aim for position. And always giving the best of myself to achieve this.

What is your plan to achieve the top world Ranking and how will you make it happen, what do you need to, or have to do?

Our plan is to continue racing like we have been doing, with the ambition to finish. Making the most of the coming races.

Did you ever accept the possibility of not accomplishing what you wanted?

Of course, besides the final results of the races and the ranking, my team and I are assured we all gave the best of ourselves throughout the year.  We did everything that was within our reach to try to achieve our goals, and we will continue working hard to keep it up in the future.
