Endurance World...

In Brief: Pilar Saravia (15) from Uruguay

My name is Pilar Saravia from Treinta y Tres, a city located in the center north East of Uruguay. This is where I was born and always lived here.

Endurance World Pilar Saravia doing very wellHow old are you?

I’m 15 years old.

When did you start riding?

I started riding very young, because I live in the countryside and work with horses at the farm. I was seven years old when I did my first horse race in my city, and this was just for fun. When I was 11 years old I started running national endurance races, and from the age of 14 years I started doing FEI races.

Is this something that runs in the family or where did you pick it up?

Yes, it’s in the family. On both, sides from mom’s and dad’s families, I was always linked to horses. Although mainly in another discipline: the raid.

Being with the horses from when I was a little girl was always something very special for me. I was very happy with them, and I had fun, even I didn’t really notice my life ended up turning around the horses. We chose to start participating in endurance because it was similar to raid, which is what we used to do. But because of the small differences the races have, for my age, I choose the endurance, although from time to time I really enjoy riding in raid races.

What are the achievements and highlights of Pilar Saravia?

My biggest personal achievement was to be able to finish the year as number 3 in the FEI senior world ranking. In September 2016, I had the opportunity to be part of the Uruguayan team for the Endurance World Cup in Slovakia. Also, it was very important to me to be selected to participate in the HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Endurance Cup with a horse of my own, a horse who I have for a very long time.

Endurance World Pilar Saravia leading the raceOwn horses or ride horses of another person?

I usually run my own horses, however on several occasions I participated with other horses. Moreover, abroad, mainly in Argentina, I have the privilege of having friends who entrust me their horses.

Do you train horses?

The horses are trained at our farm. We form a team together with my family and the boys who take care of the horses, which for us is a very important part for the results we achieve.
