Endurance World...

In Brief: Caio Vaz Guimaraes (16) from Brazil

Name: Caio Vaz Guimaraes
Age: 16
From: Brazil
I’ m the third son of my parents, being a huge surprise for my family ten years late.

Endurance World Caio. Leaving for the next loop.My entire family was dedicated to sports, such as runners, tennis players and mostly swimmers. Influenced by my parents, I fell in love for a completely different world: HORSES!

Notable achievements / palmares of Caio Vaz Guimaraes

I believe that all my races were important to me, but there are some of them that I will never forget.
These are: My first CEI2* 120km YR race in May 2014 when I won with my favourite mare, VG Fame because she grew up with me.

One year later I became an elite rider, 2014 was an amazing year because I finished my first young rider in third place in YR FEI Ranking and in first place of the YR Brazilian Ranking.
In 2015, I won my first FEI race outside Brazil being the Chilean Cup in Veramonte and the most important fact was representing Brazil in my first YR WEC in Santo Domingo -Chile – I didn’t finished the race but it was an amazing experience.
Endurance World Caio. Happy! Then in 2016 I won my first CEIYJ2* 120 km Brazilian Championship, but 2017 is being the most grateful year until now. I got amazing results, won my second Brazilian Championship, won Haras Endurance International Race with track speed record, and raced for the first time in Europe, where I finished sixth in Fontainebleau.

Probably have more to come because I was pre-selected to be in the Brazilian team for YR WEC in Italy and the Pan American Championship in Uruguay.

When did you start riding?

My parents are endurance horse breeders, they have a ranch in the country side of São Paulo. Due to that I started riding very early, I can say that I was born on the back of a horse. My first race was in 2006, when I was only five years old.

Does riding run in the family and why horses?

Endurance World Caio. At a young age.Nowadays it’s only me who rides, but in the past also my sister, my mother, and my father rode.

The decision to initiate my life with horses wasn’t mine, but the decision to continue was. I keep falling in love to these animals every single day, more and more, and I am sure that I want to spend all my days on the back of a horse.

Why endurance?

My parents, with others, were the founders of endurance races in Brazil. Since the day I was born they saw my relationship with horses and decided to encourage me. Since then I never stopped.

Endurance World Caio. A lot of racing.Own horses or ride for somebody else?

I have my own horses and sometimes I ride for another people.

Do you train horses?

Yes, I do, I train horses with my team, Bluegrass Endurance Team.

What else does Caio Vaz Guimaraes enjoy?

I really like to be with my family and friends, hang out to chat about everything and also practice other sports, like running and swimming.
