Closing race in Punta del Este for the Uruguay National Championship

Sede Audee, Punta del Este, Maldonado, Uruguay. Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 December 2017. After 12 CEI Endurance events the 2017 Uruguayan endurance season came to an end.

Races of CEI3* 160km, CEI2* 120km and CEI1* 80km were held, both in major and young riders categories.

Endurance World Punta del Este. Leader.On Saturday the CEI3* 160km was divided into five stages of 39.8km, 39.8km, 28.7km, 28.7km and the last loop of 23km. The race was led by the Brazilian rider Monica Pinto Lima, riding Caetec CSM, who was out to the last loop 12 min in front but trot lame in the last vet control handing over victory to Pilar Saravia – URU (Baraka Nassim).  The leader’s average speed was 20.19km/h.
Michaela Superkova from Slovakia, riding IFO Maghera arrived second and in third position came the Chilean rider Lukas Bukel (Che Niebla).  Lukas got the elite status after qualifying with the Uruguayan mare Che Niebla owned by Pilar Saravia.

Pilar told us about the race: “I didn’t have the intention to win, I knew Monica was also good and we were leading the entire race, I just wanted to qualify with a good speed. At the end I was glad we made it, my horse responded very well and in the last loop we went faster (23km/h) to get a decent average speed. This was a very nice way to finish the season.”

Pilar (15 years old) recently got the FEI elite rider status after finishing ten CEI3*, this one was her 11th race of 160km.  Furthermore Pilar is the 2017 Uruguayan National Champion and in the top of FEI open riders ranking.

In regard to all the goals she reached this year, she commented : “We are extremely happy with all these achievements. All of this is a true result of strong work and dedication, surrounded by good horses. I got the opportunity to race and qualify most of them over the year.”

Also on Saturday here in Punta Del Este there was the CEI1* 81km divided into 3 stages of 29km, 28.7km and last loop of 23km. The Argentinean Rider Costanza Castelbajac (Ladino) lead the race till the finish, getting the first position with an average speed of 24.52km/h.

Endurance World Punta del Este. Going well.She told us: “The race was competitive. My tactic was try to lead from the first loop. The horse was perfect;  he has a very good heart and this permitted me to start all the loops in front. Last loop was emotional, Emiliano Cornalino (Lyons Kiser El Nhyl) was a few minutes behind me, so I pushed until the last water point, where my team informed me he dropped back which gave the opportunity to finish calm. I am personally very happy to finish the season winning with this experienced horse Ladino, also for the trainer Jorge Pimienta and his team.”

Emiliano Cornalino – URU (Lyons Kaiser El Nhyl) arrived second and in third position came Pablo Garcia – URU (Ruperta).

In the CEI1* young rider category the winner was Agustina Baptista – URU (Shara Love) with an average speed of 23.01km/h, who overtook Stefany Rogel – URU (Angelico Del Timote) in the last loop. Stefany was leading the race in the first two loops and was 2.5 minutes in front but Agustina pushed his mare to 28.60km in the last loop to finish first.

Agustina said: “The mare impressed us, this was her first 1 star event and she made it on a difficult track and heavy weather. We took advantage in the best parts of the track, positioned in a location she felt better. We are happy, Sahara Love has a bright future.”

Endurance World Punta del Este. Racing.In third place arrived Belen Mendez – URU riding ASG Proteo.

On Sunday in Punta Del Este the CEI2* 120km was divided into 4 stages of 39.8km, 28.7km, 28.7km and last loop of 23km.
In senior category Ignacio Sanguinetti – URU (Ashva Storm Boy) was the winner with an average speed of 23.54km/h. He told us his experience: “I am very happy with the result, it has been a long time without win. This was one of my most difficult races, because of the distance and also because it was the horse’s first 120km race.  Moreover I did not know the horse until Sunday morning before the start. I was glad when I noticed that the recovery was less than 2 minutes and it was easy to be in front the entire race. In the last loop I put the GPS in 25km.h and finished first, winning a ticket to travel to UAE to participate in the Crown Prince race. I want to thank Fernanda Villar (trainer) and Isha (owner) and all those how helped me during the race, especially Horacio (Ferjancic).”

The second place was defined in a final sprint with three horses. Manuela Anotonaccio – URU (Tango LE) was quickest and arrived second. Manuela told us: “In this race we got all the possible weathers, rain, sun, hot and humidity. We finished very happy because we came with the ambition to get in the top two in order to get a chance to qualify for the Dubai Crown Prince race.”

Endurance World Punta del Este. At the finishIn third place came Nicolas Stirling – URU (LG Lejamsi) followed by Spanish rider Laura Yanes (LT Ecstatic) who was only 4 seconds behind.

In CEI1* junior category the victory went to Vanessa Peyronel – URU (Bonita Hee), second came Carolina Garcia – URU (TBO Rosa) and third her teammate Noelia Mozzo – URU (TBO Mi loco).

With the finales races concluded in Punta Del Este, the National Champions were declared. The 2017 National Champion Senior category, gold medal was for Pilar Saravia who also received the gold medal in National Championship 2* and National Championship 3*.  In young Rider category the National Championship gold medal was for Paulina Berriel.  AL AASFA received the Owner Championship gold medal.

 

Uruguay closed off a successful 2017 racing season besides organising the Pan American Championship last October and hosting the FEI General annual assembly.  Finally, the Uruguayans have big hopes to finish in the FEI top ranking.
