Endurance Trainers Cup – 31 March 2017

Ali Bin Allooba and Al Bawadi Stables masters in a suspense-filled race.

Endurance Trainers Cup, Dubai International Endurance Village, Dubai, UAE. 31 March 2017.

The Endurance Trainers Cup is one of the most anticipated races in the UAE championship. As a tradition, the top stables don’t participate in the races.

It’s no secret that there are stables that try to keep some fresh horses after a demanding season to try and shine in this race.

The distance for this national race was 100km spread over three loops: 40, 40 and 20km.
But the high temperatures were going to be a different challenge.

The first rider to come in after the first loop was Mohammed Al Mazrooei (Handor Nimrod) but the recovery time was so long that he was not in the top twenty.

The leader after the first loop was Mohammed Al Ameri (Dragon) who came over from Qatar with the Dukhan Pvt Stales. But his luck didn’t last long and he was out of the race after the second loop.

Leading going into the final loop was Leila Al Marzooqi (ER Balthazar) who had a good season this year with Al Kamda Endurance Stables.
Some people predicted that this was the horse to beat.
Other people thought it was Mira Al Ansaari (Bronze wings) who was the biggest favourite.

The difference between the two was 37 seconds so everything was still to play for.
It didn’t take long for Mira to overtake Leila and the two didn’t stay together.
Each had a well-defined plan and it was obvious that they were going to stick to it.

Before halfway Leila was joined by Rashed Al Ketbi (Estampa), Rashid Al Baloushi (Idaho Wildfire) and Ali Bin Allooba (Volfik de Pruns).

Since Mira seemed to be on a different planet, the suspense was for the second place.
But the scenario turned out to be different with Mira preserving the horse, and she slowed down the others came closer by.
Then drama struck for Mira. With the finish in sight the horse tripped and she fell off. There were no issues with the horse and rider but by the time they got going Ali Bin Allooba passed her and crossed the line first, whilst she managed to come second 20 seconds later and Leila four seconds after her.
