H.H. Sheikh Hamdan rides to victory at the WEG in Normandy, 2014.

Following the withdrawal of Bromont in Canada earlier this year, the FEI opened bids to find a replacement.
The Tryon International Equestrian Center has most the necessary facilities for the championship in a permanent base, and the FEI committee unanimously chose their proposal as the strongest.
The previous FEI World Equestrian Games were held in 2014 in Caen, France, where H.H. Sheikh Hamdan dominated the field aboard Yamamah.
