H. H. Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan International Endurance Festival – Day 5 – 10 March 2017

Everything still to play for in the CEI3* 240km

Ali Bin Allooba and Al Bararri Stables reign supreme in CEIYJ2* 120km

H. H. Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan International Endurance Festival, Boudheib Endurance Village, Al Khatem, Abu Dhabi. Friday 10 March 2017.

Today was the fifth day of the Festival. Yesterday we saw the first leg of the CEI3* 240km and witnessed an exciting CEN 100km ladies’ race.

Today there were again two races in the second leg of the 240km, with 80km to cover, but the three loop lengths were different from yesterday at 36, 24 and 20km.

The other race was a CEIYJ2* 120km over four loops: 36. 33.7, 30.3 and 20km.

For the 240km 12 of the 17 starters were still in the running and 24 combinations took part in the junior race.

In the CEI3* the biggest drama of the day involved Ahmad Abdollahi (Boelem d’Andruere) who was on course for a podium finish but got vetted out after the fifth loop with irregular gait.

The podium contenders swapped places after each loop, but by the closing of Day 2 the top three included the two main players from yesterday: Rashed Al Bloushi (Yentl Sharabi) with Martina Spelanzon (Vizir Des Aubepines) in second, while Hamad Ibrahim (Kelkette Park Federer) was promoted to third place.
Nothing has been decided yet, with the top three only separated by 42 seconds after two days and 160km of racing.

In the points ranking the situation is clearer, with Martina Spelanzon in the lead and Waleed Zia ul Din (Lormar Durengo) in third.
The second place in this ranking is currently Fatma Al Marri (Edl Agbahr Reeko), who is in fifth place for the overall classification and managed to work her way up to the podium after a consistent ride.

In the CEIYJ2* 120km it was ‘game on’ from the first metre.
The leader of the first loop, Khalfan Al Basti (Palhavi Des Pins), disappeared after the second loop and this put Ali Bin Allooba (Un’Art) in front with a three-minute lead on the chasing pack of four riders led by Hassan Al Hamadi (Tao Du Cavallon).
Ali rode in first at the third loop, but a longer recovery time dropped him to third place. Hassan now led the pack, with his stablemate Faris Al Mansoori (Uschwan Hotspur) in second place.

One fact was for sure, that by the start of the final loop victory would be claimed by one of these three riders since the fourth-placed lagged by 14 minutes.

Ali decided to go full charge and after a few kilometres reduced the 45-second gap on Faris to zero. He didn’t stop there, going on to chase Hassan and cross the finish line a minute ahead of his last prey.

It was all happy faces at Al Bararri: “We wanted to go for the victory, but we knew it was a tricky situation with the limited recovery time. In the end, it went fine and this is a reward for all the hard work we do.”

The disappointment was obvious for Faris when he was vetted out after the finish because of metabolic issues.

Majid bin Biat (Ratswolf Yada) seemed to be in the background the whole day and left the fight to the others, but with a 14th, 7th and 5th place climbed up the classification ladder to get third place, one second before Rashed Al Ketbi (Perdeberg Hidalgo).

The main success in the points classification was for Rashed, with Mansoor Khamis (Daybreak Fadl) in second, and Majid got the final podium place.
