High Speed Competitive races in Trinidad, Flores

Trinidad, Flores, Uruguay. Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 July.
This was the seventh race on the Uruguayan endurance calendar with 11 CEI races in the year, including the Pan American Games next October.

Trinidad received at this race track a big number of the country’s endurance community. Competitions of CEI2* 120km and CEI1* 80km were held out both in senior and junior categories.

The CEI2* 120km was divided into four stages of 38.5km, 34.5km, 28km and the last loop of 19km. In senior category, Isha Judd – URU (Ashva Fire Fly) came first. Second place was for Nicolas Stirling – URU (LG Lejamsi) and third place finish went to Pilar Saravia – URU (Che Niebla).

Leaving for the next loop.In the third loop, we saw the elimination of Martin Stirling – URU (Naranjito), he arrived in this stage in first position, followed by Monica Pinto Lima – URU (Himalala da barra). It was a very strong race from the start onwards with an average speed of 23.63km/h for Monica Pinto Lima – URU (Himalaia Da, Barra) who maintained the first position from the beginning and almost won, but the horse didn’t pass the last trot.

Second placed Nicolas Stirling told us: “It was the first 120km. for my horse and recovered always well and it’s a horse that likes to gallop on the track. In our team, the one we had more expectations for was the other horse, Naranjito (ridden by his brother Martin Stirling) who had good finishes in the past, but in this race, was out in the 3rd phase. At that moment, my trainer told me to push and not lose any position”.

The third position was for Pilar Saravia – URU (Che Niebla) who climbed this mound to second position in the FEI Open Riders World Endurance Ranking. Pilar told us: “The race was very good, the mare was incredible, although took time to recovering, but on track Che Niebla compensated a lot of this time. We did the last stage quite fast, giving everything what the mare had, which resulted in an excellent race for us”.

Riding in a group.The junior category proved also to be a though race from the start and four horses arrived in the same group in the first two loops but the heart rate recovery of the horse of Stefany Rogel – URU (HM Fatk Tre) took her to the first position. Finally, in the last loop Stefany and Joaquin Stirling – URU (LG Chichone) entered to the final part, a sand race track, together and Stefany left Joaquin behind who couldn’t run at the same pace. The race average speed was 23.04km/h and the speed in the last loop for the winner was 29. 44km/h. Stefany was happy with his second win in 120km: “The race was wonderful, great!! From the start to the finish line it was amazing, the horse is awesome, the power he had during the whole race, a great horse! Is was a hard race but we managed to win, and that is the best feeling! I am very grateful to all the crew team of Haras Paso del Manzanero & Pio Endurance and Pio (Olascoaga) who trusted me to this ride HM Fatk Tre, a superb horse.”

HM Fatk Tre trainer, Pio Olascoaga, told us “The horse proved to be much superior in the heart rate recovery, with a perfect trot and a very strong last stage, was what was needed to win. He was a fair winner, make in the race easy in his debut in 120km. He will be one of the highlighted horses this year.”

In third place arrived Gaspar Mendez – URU (MM Exev) ten minutes behind the winner.

Endurance World Trinidad. Almost done.On Sunday, it was time for the CEI1* 81km which was divided in three loops of 33.5km, 28.5km and 19km.

The senior race was another difficult one lead by Rogelio Angelo – URU (El Curaca) with a lead of five minutes but was vetted out after the second loop, the horse didn’t pass the trot. In the second loop Nicolas Cardozo – URU (Rosemary) started in first position but was caught by Andres Martinez – URU (JC I Laberan) with an average of 30.43km/h in the final loop with an average speed of 25.04km/h over the whole distance.
In third position finished Gabriel Fernandez – URU (Indio Loco).

In Junior Category, the winner was Bruna Leites – URU (Don Ricardo), Teresa Sanchez – URU (Leon) arrive in second position but didn’t pass the last trot because of irregular gait. Conrado Mayobre – URU (Tintorro) who arrived in the third position was also out of the competition in the last vet control for metabolic. Finally, the second place was for Diego Mcalister – URU (MC Gitana) and third place went to Trinidad Mendez – ARG (Campinas Endurance).
