High tension racing in Lagunillas Matetic, Chile

Lagunillas Matetic, Chile. 21 and 22 April 2017.

Taking place in the surroundings of a vineyard this was a very important event being a qualifying race for the all-important the Pan-American championship scheduled in October in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

On day one only two races were held; a CEN 40 and CEN 80km.
Sebastian Brintrump (HF Barii) took glory in the CEN 40km before Mauricio Gonzalez (Cosaco) and Juan Eduardo Spencer (MC Tango).

Lagunillas Matetic, Chile. The winnerFor the CEN 80km it was Alvaro Llompart Grimm (HLS Chocolate Amargo) who won with Catalina Llorens Clark (ML Ray) in second and Rosamel Rojas Loyola (Pegaso) in third.

The main races in this event in Lagunillas Matetic, Chile were on Saturday 22 April with Four CEI races on the calendar; CEI1* 80 and CEI2* 120km both in junior and senior.

The races were very competitive on a day that started cold in the morning but turned hotter later.

Lagunillas – Matetic, Chile. Riders at a water pointMaria Teresa Sanchez (AS Rosalinda) was leading from the start in the CEIYJ1* 80km and Juan De Dios Larrain Calvo (Bruma) finished second.
He finished with Javier Mayol Calvo (Aswad) on his heels but the latter, who was in second position for most of the race, was vetted out (metabolic).

That top three were Micaela Torres Horta (Alburac), Catalina Llorens Clark (Samir) and Paula Llorens Clark (Luna)

It were Micaela and Paula who swapped places in the first three loops and the deciding factor was the recovery time.
The starting order for the final loop was Micaela followed by Paula with a mere five seconds and Catalina twelve seconds further back.

Lagunillas – Matetic, Chile. Blue skies.Paula was having problems to match the speed of the two others and crossed the line in third position. Catalina had the highest speed in the final loop and closed the gap to five second with Micaela who was a well-deserved winner after a very tense battle.

In the CEI2* 120km, 24 combinations took the start with a lot of changes at the top of the leader board.
David Ramirez Fuentes (Perseverancia Pan de Azucar) was a dominate force for most of the race but couldn’t keep the momentum and had to let go in the final loop to finish in fourth position.
Maria Shabloska (Perseverancia Pupi) was the other big contender but after starting the last loop in first position she dropped back to sixth place.

Eventually the top three finished only separated by eight seconds.

Lagunillas – Matetic, Chile. Riders going through the fieldsThe very hard fought first place went to Alvaro Llompart Grimm (PS Lautaro) although he started the last 20km in fifth position.

For sure it wasn’t an easy victory as Alfredo Sat (Aura) started in sixth and rode the fastest of all. He came into arm length of first place only separated by four seconds.
Mauricio Gonzalez (AS Yuma) was a close contender to claim third place only four seconds behind second place.

Lagunillas – Matetic, Chile. Crewing in the race.On this same Saturday, there were a lot of national races were scheduled.
In the CENYJ 40km the top three was for Trinidad Marinkovic Cortese (Kalafate), Florencia Cardone Almarza (Marengo Faraon) and Alvaro Cox Mujica (Bandolero).

For the regular CEN 40km first place went to Simona Camilla Penaloza (Cipres) with Felipe Thomson (Roble) in second and Jose Pedro Varela Cerda (LL Jet Black) in third.

In the CENYJ 60km the places were for Borja Mayol (Altamira Ventarron), Amparo Lopez Horta (Tabacon GC) and Emilia Patterson (Simsek).

There were two finishers in the CENYJ 80km with Macarena Suazo Zepeda (Jiu Pola) finishing in front of Isidora Hirmas Valderrama (Hakim)

On the podium for the CEN 80km were Carlos Oneil (Geronimo), Sergio Ivan Ulloa (Leo) and Juan Guillermo Jimenez Rojas (Curimanque)
