The Story

We were introducing a group of horses to the concept of swimming rivers. I took Pat, our experienced Nooitgedagter, across to show the rookie horses “how it was done”. Things didn’t go well; Pat seemed to have forgotten how to swim, leaving me a little stunned by a hoof to the side of the head when he flailed around and swam straight over me in deep water. This was taken shortly after hauling ourselves out of the river; me happy not to be hurt too badly, Pat looking sheepish in the background. He swam perfectly for the next two weeks.
