Punta del Este, Maldonado, Uruguay. Saturday 14 October 2017. A few days after initiating the Pan-American Championship, where the host country got awarded with all the gold medals, the organisers got a lot of praise and Uruguay started dreaming of hosting the World Championship in 2024.

On Saturday more than 120 horses showed up in Punta del Este for the CEI3* 160km and the CEI1* 100km both for senior and young riders.

Endurance World Punta del Este. Full force. The CEI3* 160km was divided into five stages of 39.8km, 39.8km, 28.7 km, 28.7km, and last loop of 23km.

This was one of the biggest races in the region for this distance, whith participants from different parts of the continent like Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Uruguay.
Different to the Pan-American Race, when the weather was perfect, this Saturday the temperature was elevated and the horses suffered a lot in the hot weather.

The Brazilian rider Monica Pinto Lima riding Himalaia da Barra started to lead the race in the first loop with an average speed of 22km.h followed by Pedro Sosa – URU riding HM Fatk Tre and Fernanda Villar –  URU riding Puntazo.

Endurance World Punta del Este. Nice.Fernanda Villar passed them with an average speed of 23k./h in the second loop and held first position until the fourth loop when the horse got eliminated for irregular gait. At this point Monica Pinto maintained the first position until the finish line, she arrived alone in perfect condition, completing the race at an average speed of 21.01km/h.

In second place arrived Richard P. Olivera – URU (Kentucky Endurance), ten minutes behind the winner and in third place came Nicolas Peyronel – URU (Hidalgo), with one minute difference. The best condition award was for the AS Yuma, from Chile.

Endurance World Punta del Este. Close fight. In the CEI1* 100km a group of seven horses were fighting for the first position in the last loop. At the last water point the Chilenean rider Jose Andre Poublete (Perserverancia Escondido) was leading this group followed by the two teammates Amaro Nadal – URU (Papa Fina) and Rogelio Angelo – URU (El Caruca), as well as Guzman Elissalde – URU (Malandro).

Amaro Nadal was left behind and the battle for victory was between Rogelio Angelo and Jose Andre Poublete in a final sprint. Rogelio finished first with an average speed of 24.70km/h, two seconds in front of second placed Jose Andre whilst third place was for Guzman.

Amaro Nadal, owner of the winning horse and riding himself as well, gave his feelings after the race: “The race was very difficult, firstly because there were 55 horses on the track, and secondly because this track is the most difficult.  It presents many varieties and that was noted in the heart rate recovery of the horses. We aimed at the first place from the beginning with the two horses. For the winner, El Caruca, this was his first 100km. My mare, did not race last year and I didn’t want her to push too much, I took care of her and which was rewarded with the best condition prize”

Endurance World Punta del Este. Close up.In the CEIYJ1* 100km Martin Stirling – URU (Naranjito) was leading from the beginning till the end won with and average speed of 25.45km/h. He arrived together with second placed Terensa Sanchez – URU (JLB Magnifico) , Nicolas de Leon – URU (LQ Vandolero) finished third.

The winner Martin Stirling told us: “When I left Las Glicinas (Stable) we talked about galloping on the track with 26.50km/h average speed and we knew that our horse could do it. In the last loop we left with Teresa Sanchez, we knew her horse was in good condition.  We both discussed about finishing with healthy horses and not running to kill on the last lap. I want to congratulate and thank her team because they also gave me water.”
