Raid San Isidro Castrillon Piedras Blancas

Piedras Blancas, Asturias, Spain. Saturday 13 May 2017.

The equestrian raid of San Isidro Castrillon celebrated this year its tenth edition, the Equestrian Club Jáquima has been in charge of the organization for the last seven years, including the program of having a CEI1* 80km race in the last three editions.


Endurance World Piedras Blancas. A group of young riders.The raid of San Isidro passes through Castrillón and Soto del Barco, two northern coastal councils of Asturias on dirt tracks and few asphalted sections and some of these roads are part of the famous Camino de Santiago.

A total of 60 combinations started who enjoyed the race in typical Asturian weather conditions; a sunny day with some shower and a pleasant temperature.
The national races, were 20, 40, 60 and 80km plus a CEI1* 80km.

Endurance World Piedras Blancas. Rider in full actionTwenty young riders and junior from the El Forcon Sports Center, participated in the initiation rides, completing 10 and 20km races, thus promoting the interest of the youngest in endurance discipline.

Candela Riancho (Little Fargo) who is 10 years old debuted in the CEN 40km riding alongside his father Saul Riancho (Labus) and they finished first and second.

In the CEI1* 80km leader after the first loop was Marcelo Vicente Gil (Estambul) closely followed by
Carlos Fernández Alvarez (Kursat el Kabor) and Amador Campo Soto (Amador).

Endurance World Piedras Blancas. There was some rain.The positions didn’t change for the second loop and it was Amador who lost connection with the leaders and dropped to the fourth place.
New in third place was Carlota Cruz Villegas (Fiona du Loup).

Finally, the same three names would occupy the podium but it was Carlos who had the most speed left and managed to catch and overtake Marcelo.

 

Endurance World Piedras Blancas. Rider approaching the finish.But there was also joy for Marcelo although he couldn’t manage to keep the first place, he got awarded with the best conditioned horse.

This edition also served as scoring test for AECCA (Asociación Española de Criadores de Caballos Jóvenes or the Spanish Association of Young Horse Breeders) and it was the horse Estambul received the prize to the best Arab horse.
