Toscana Endurance Lifestyle delivers top class racing with UAE in charge

Toscana Endurance Lifestyle, San Rossore, Pisa, Italy. Saturday 15 July and Sunday 16 July 2017.

A total of 517 riders, coming from 44 different nations and prize money at Euro 2,000,000. These are the facts of this year’s edition HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Endurance Cup Festival in this Toscana Endurance Lifestyle event.

The buzz was very vibrant during this high octane of racing with three races on Saturday CEI1* 80km (57 entries), CEIYJ2* 120km (29 entries) and the discipline that gains popularity the CEI2* 120km ladies (172 entries). Sunday two race were scheduled with the CEI2* 120km (200 entries) and the CEI3* 160km (50 entries).
Endurance World Toscana Endurance Lifestyle. Riding in the woods. The European record breaking entries for the ladies’ race obliged the organiser to move this race from Sunday to Saturday. “We felt this was necessary to have the best and safest races” were the comments.

On Saturday in the CEI1* 80km it was Bairisal Singh – IND (Magic Glenn Avelina) who was the strongest and crossed the finish half an hour in front of Essa Al Shair – UAE (Ghazwen) and Alessandro Generali – ITA (Ireno) a further 15 minutes back.
The warm weather seemed to be a concern for most stables: “It’s very hot out there and on certain parts of the track there is no air which makes it pretty hard for the horses.”

For the CEI2* 120km ladies the fight for victory was very intense with two very dominant riders and although Alia Al Saboori – UAE (Za’amah) was leading from the beginning it was not a carefree race for her. Acting as her shadow was Guardia Gonzalez – ESP (Al Fatin).
The race ended in a sprint and it was Alia who crossed the line first with a narrow lead.

Endurance World Toscana Endurance Lifestyle. The winner.Happy faces for MRM stables: “This horse is one of our favourites and won here before. It was last year in the 160km. So, we knew we could do well considering that it was hotter and more humid back then and this combined with a shorter race.”
Third place went to Ayesha Al Romaithi – UAE (Quetzal Arvorig) who worked her way steadily through the field.

Eight kilometres. That was how long the sprint took between Hamdan Al Marri – UAE (Vishkra Jais) and Saeed Al Muhairi – UAE (Adadji de Bozouls).
Apart from the third loop where he clutched the lead Saeed was always in second position. All the more during the race MRM Stables stayed very positive: “Whatever the outcome of this race is, we know we have an amazing horse here. The weather conditions make it a good testing ground for the race in Dubai. We’re highly pleased with this horse.”

The sprint was intense and the tables turned into favour of Hamdan, a previous winner here in Pisa. “Correct, I won the Toscana Endurance Lifestyle race last year and a few years back. Yes, I like it here, for me this is the best course of Europe” commented the winner.

Third place went to leader after the first loop Salim Al Owais – UAE (Amandinne).

Endurance World Toscana Endurance Lifestyle. The leader before the last loop. The weather on Sunday was, specially in the morning, better when temperatures and humidity dropped.
Competition in the CEI2* 120km was extremely fierce and although four leaders crossed the finish line close together it was a tough race with high speeds.
The demanding high speeds meant we lost some of the top favourites after each loop with the main leading UAE stables dominating the pack.
First prize was for Mansour Al Faresi – UAE (Magic Glenn Tayla) with Adbulla Al Marri -UAE (Chanah) in second and Ghanim Al Owaisi – UAE (Dji’nha de Fignols) finishing third.

“Don’t think that we got this victory on a golden plate” were the comments from the MRM camp “Did you see the speeds they were doing, especially in the last loop. Mansour is a good rider and we gave him a good horse that won this summer in Euston Park. Even if that was an 80km race the horse showed back then already the potential.

Endurance World Toscana Endurance Lifestyle. Close finish. The big race of the Toscana Endurance Lifestyle was the CEI3* 160 km which ended in a photo finish where the first place was awarded to Mohamed Aida – ALG (Taher du Barthas).
Notably for the first half of the race it seemed that, because a big group coming in after each loop, the riders took an easy approach.
“Nothing like that, this is a high tempo and a serious test on the endurance of the horses” mentioned one of the competitors.
With the top five at the start of the last loop all within a good minute and top three only separated by ten seconds a tense final 20 kilometres were on the card.
Mohamad Aida crossed the line shoulder to shoulder with Salem Al Kitbi – UAE (Kerdos) who was vetted out at the final check with metabolic.
Second place was for Hamad Al Kaabi – UAE (Siam du Barthas) and third place for Salim Al Owais – UAE (Castlebar Corsair).
Understandably for F3 stables this was a successful event with first and third place in this 160km race plus victory on Saturday in the Juniors: “Yes, we are happy. We like this race and were successful before. These are not easy races and we are lucky we can leave the HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Endurance Cup Festival with some silverware.”
