The Uzès endurance spring races

Uzès, France. from the 28 to the 30th of April.

Three days of races in Uzès, in the South of France, with on Friday a race day for young horses, Saturday was the biggest event with a 120km race and on Sunday 20km to 80km races.

Let’s focus on the 120km race, with two different departures: one for the CEI2* and amateur riders and fifteen minutes later for young and junior riders. In total 85 participants started on Saturday morning, including 16 combinations in CEIYJ2*.

After the first loop, it was Pascale Piazzalunga, with Tooyou de Gargassan, who took the lead of the race, doing the first loop of 30kms at a speed of 19,1 km/h. A group of 13 riders was less than two minutes behind her and until the third loop the leading group was composed of a lot of riders.

Endurance World Uzes. Riding through the fields.The young riders went less fast than the seniors and it was Lilou Tomas Arnaud riding Samirha du Mas who took the lead at a speed of 17,89km/h. Two minutes later came Carla Tomas with Ainhoa Fertit, Geoffrey Boulay associated to Qatar de Messey and Flore Alonso with Darko.

No eliminations at the first vet-gate for the young and juniors riders but four horses lame in the CEI2*.

In the second loop of 30kms the seniors increased the average speed to 19,24 km/h.  Genevieve Carrasco on Cognac Dancer entered the vet-gate as first. But again, followed by 13 combinations separated by less than two minutes.

The young riders speeded up, doing the second loop at 19,83 for the Monegasque rider Emma Noury who took the head with Urga du Sauveterre. She was followed by four other riders in less than one minute.

Again, no eliminations in the young and junior group but three horses lame in the senior group.

Rider leaving for the next loop.After the third loop (which was the same as the first), it was the Omani rider Saleh Al Balushi who took the lead doing this phase at 19,95 km/h with Dalila de Fontanel. In the same minute Faisal Al Farsi, Nicolas Ballarin and Emilie Kuntz entered the vet-gate.

Also in the young and junior group, there were four riders in two minutes. We found again Emma Noury in first place followed by Flore Alonso, Lilou Tomas Arnaud and Carla Tomas.

Three horses lame and one eliminated for metabolic in the young & junior group and five horses lame, one eliminated for metabolic and one retired in the senior group.

Some combinations did the last loop (which was the same then the second) really fast like Valérie Gerber with Samira el Arabica. They were fastest of this phase, doing the loop at 24,05 km/h which made them move from the 34th position to the 15th position. The winners of this race arrived together, the two Omani riders: Saleh Al Balushi with Dalila de Fontanel and Faisal Al Farsi with Un Dia. Just behind them came Pascale Piazzalunga riding with Tooyou de Gargassan (five seconds later) and 35 seconds after her came Emilie Kuntz associated to Rafale d’Aurabelle.

Endurance World Uzes. Rider in full control.The CEIYJ riders arrived sprinting for the first position. It was Flore Alonso with Darko who won, just before Lilou Tomas Arnaud with Samirha du Mas and Caroline Willaume Legastelois riding Omega de Suleiman. Emma Noury who left first finished fifth

On Sunday 66 couples took the departure of the CEI* (80km). Again it was an Omani rider who won ! Mahmood Marhoon Salim Al Fori with Osmos Caussanel took the fist position at the average speed of 21,4 km/h just one second ahead of Margaux Carteret and Quismy de L’Oustal. In less than 1 minute of the winner came 5 other riders : Fanny Colanson riding Topaze de la Cure , Clément Watteau with Didjeli de Mandre and his sister Manon Watteau riding Lambda Villeneuve and Sonia Bourle associated to Uzika d’Aqui.
