VII Raid de Tordera SportHG – 10 & 11 March 2017

María Álvarez wins again

VII Raid de Tordera SportHG, Club Hipic de Garbi, Tordera, Sant Pol de Mar, Barcelona, Spain. 10 and 11 March 2017.

The Raid of Tordera SportHG is a venue known for its technical terrain.

Besides the Spanish riders there are increasing numbers of international entrants every year.

It’s also the venue where the Spanish Championship will be contested on 28 April.

Five races were scheduled with a CEI1* 85km and a CEI3* 160km on the Friday.

In the CEI1* 85km Carlos Perez (Anteo) was leading after the first loop, extending his gap in the second loop in order to slow down in the third to occupy the top spot on the podium. In second position throughout the day was Agda Crusellas (Gorosti Pagadi) who held that position until the end. Third place went to Josep Puig (Blue Ujjain).

In the CEI3* 160km, María Álvarez (T’Aime de Coeur) mimicked her win from last year. She spearheaded a group of three who dominated the race as one team. Positions swapped between these three frontrunners but that was purely a formality as the trio rode side by side all the time. They were only separated temporarily because of recovery times, but even these were very similar so they could continue to ride as a group. Second place was for Guillem Soldevilla (Lludriga de Masferrer) and the final podium spot was taken by Omar Blanco (Treogan).

With a CEI1* 85km and CEI2* 123km for both junior and senior it was another day full of action on Saturday 11 March.

In the CEI1* 85km Jordi Santacreu (Latanga D’Arsol) and Robert Noguera (Aigoual Cyra) rode together and crossed the finish line in that order. For the third place the fight was on between Pau Cuenca (Birjan 10) and Vitor Araujo (Tra-Kefren), turning out in favour of Pau, although he started the final loop in fourth position.

Rocio Carmona (Cashin In) and Lucia Supekova (Shagya Margareta) took turns leading the race in the CEI2YJ* 123km and it was thanks to a strong final loop that Rocio took the honours. Third-placed Elisabet Caballero (JM Cinnamon) and fourth-placed Julia Batalla (Gondola A 62.78) finished side by side but a fair distance from the silver medal.

In the CEI2* 123km a trio formed of winner Angel Coll (Saadi des Vabres), second-placed Omar Rodrigo (Sayyepers) and then Paula Sanchez (Akthara), but she was vetted out at the final vet check with irregular gait.

Third place therefore went to Silvia Altimiras (Furius) who climbed through the ranking loop by loop.
