Weather made it hard racing in Punta del Este

Punta del Este is called by some travellers as the “Saint-Tropez of Uruguay” and will be the next PAN AM venue on October 2017.

Although winter started, the endurance riders and horses were welcomed with summer time, a hot wind from the north elevated the temperatures for one week, this weather condition is called “Veranillo de San Juan” and just started the day of the 120km race.
Endurance World Punta del Este. Winner of the juniors. This meant that all the visitors, owners, grooms enjoyed the race more than the riders who had to manage the race in a different way and had to take care of the horses to finish with elevated temperatures and humidity.

Competitions of CEI2* 120km and CEI1* 80km were both in Senior and Young Riders categories.

The CEI2* 120km was divided into four stages of 39.8km, 30km, 30km and last loop of 20.5km.
In the senior category, the winner was Cecilia Sebben (LG Sajj) from the first loop to the last with average speed of 20.92km/h. Second place was for Pilar Saravia (HSJ Shaitan) who started the last loop in fifth position and climbed to the second place with a last loop average speed of 25km/h. In third place finished Gonzalo Guede (EA Abasdiz Del Alma).

In junior category, the victory was for Belen Mendez (SM Kiss Me Yah). Belen told us: “This race means a lot for us, we have to qualify the binomial horse to be eligible for the Pan Am championship national team, in addition the mare was brought to start training 45 days ago. We had a lot of pressure to qualify and the whole team was full of energy. The mare doesn’t stop to demonstrate how good she is, winning two of the three 120 km races she ran”.
Nine minutes behind Belen in second place arrived Santiago Cabrera (Kentucky Endurance) and third was Ema Sanchez (Baraka Bint Samira).

Endurance World Punta del Este. Riding alone. On Sunday, the CEI1* 80km races here in Punta del Este were scheduled and they were divided into three loops stages of 29.7km, 30km and 20.5km.
In senior, the winner was Andres Martinez (EL Perico) who never left the first position. In second place arrived Fabian Almeida (LT Estatica) and third went to teammate Walfredo Almeida (LT Cantion) who passed in the last meters Manuela Antonaccio (Tangole) who arrived in fourth position. Manuela told us details of the race: “For me this was such a hard race, the humidity was enormous and for some moments there was no air for the horses. My horse made it all good, we started the last loop five minutes behind the leader and at the last water point we were 1.5 minutes behind him. I lost a hind shoe and had to stop so I changed my objective to qualify”

Endurance World Punta del Este. Winner of senior.Luis Puig, owner of second and third placed horses commented: “My horses were here to win, we had an issue with the saddle of LT Canton in the first loop, where he had to stop and lost time.
My mare (LT Estatica) arrived first in the first and second loop but we lost this position with the recovery time, even LT Estatica had a good recovery time the winner was better”.

Like last month’s race in Trinidad Flores, in the junior category of CEI1* 80km the winner was Teresa Sanchez (Ifo SB Hadid Ama) who maintains this position in all the competition. Her sister Ema Sanchez (FF Nubarron) came second and third went to Stephani Rogel (HLP Versace).
